Standard Grade Course

Extract from SQA "Arrangements" documentation:

The assessable Elements of S Grade are Knowledge and Understanding and Enquiry Skills.

External assessment of Knowledge and Understanding and Enquiry Skills will be by means of a single written examination at each of the three levels, as follows:

Foundation level (1 hour 5 minutes) assessing grades 6 and 5

General level (1 hour 25 minutes) assessing grades 4 and 3

Credit level (2 hours) assessing grades 2 and 1

Each paper will contain questions based on each of the three study themes: while questions will be concerned largely with the key ideas within a study theme, candidates should be prepared to answer part-questions which link the study themes. A variety of question types will be included; most questions will be resource-based and at least one map-based question will feature in each paper.

The overall award for the subject will be the mean of the Element grades, with Knowledge and Understanding and Enquiry Skills being weighted 40:60 respectively.

Credit Paper

Timing is crucial-you have 120 minutes to gain 80 marks

This means you should allow 1 ½ minutes per mark!!

Since most questions are 4, 5 or 6 marks, this means:

4 mark question-6 minutes

5 mark question-7 ½

6 mark question-9 minutes....

......On average!!

Best thing is to check you are covering 20 marks every half hour.

The Standard Grade course comprises 17 Key Ideas., which can be combined in various ways to form larger blocks of teaching.

The notes in this wiki are arranged as follows:
